Michigan’s Rashan Gary is a highly touted 2019 NFL Draft defensive line prospect.
Rashan Gary entered Michigan as a prized recruit and has lived up to the hype. His versatility working along the defensive line makes him one of the more promising 2019 NFL Draft prospects. He should be one of the highlighted defenders throughout the process.
Gary features an athletic frame with solid bulk and length. He mainly works at the defensive end position, but will rotate from side to side.
His strength and raw power is something that quickly jumps off the screen. He features a lot of shock in his hands which helps him keep blockers off his frame. Gary also shows the ability to gain inside hands and generate a push.
Those heavy hands help him quickly disengage from blocks and work his way to the ball carrier. Gary’s short area burst allows him to make a lot of plays away from his frame.

He is a very strong run defender which gives him position versatility. It’s possible that he could work along the interior of the defensive line if he were to add more bulk to his frame. Gary has the skill set to be a very effective 3-technique at the next level.
While Gary flashes the ability to generate pressure off the edge he lacks the balance to bend. His pass rush success has a lot to do with his power, lateral quickness and motor. Michigan also likes to use stunts which provides opportunities.
He is a strong athlete with good overall movement skills. That ability to bend and flatten around the edge is tough to find. However, it’s important part of being able to generate consistent pressure at the next level.
Gary’s position fit will be one of the bigger question marks facing his NFL future. However, he has enough raw athleticism and overall talent to be a high impact player.
