Stanford’s Bobby Okereke is an experience 2019 NFL Draft linebacker prospect.

Bobby Okereke has seen action in a lot of Stanford’s games over the course of his career. He has been a steady presence in the middle of their defense. However, he lacks the necessary skills to be considered a real 2019 NFL Draft candidate.

Okereke features a solid frame with good overall length. He flashes some straight line speed and closing burst.

However, he isn’t a quick-twitch athlete and needs time to get up to full speed. Okereke also lacks change of direction skills which hurts his ability to adjust. It doesn’t help that Okereke lacks the instincts to make up for his limited quickness.

Okereke plays hesitant and rarely appear to be moving at full speed. He often remains stationary off the snap which allows offensive linemen to reach him at the 2nd level. A lot of his time on the field is spent being blocked.

If Okereke does find some room to move he fails to attack the ball carrier with authority. This results in a lot of missed tackles or being a second late to make a play. There are just too many plays that Okereke leaves on the field.

He’s at his best when able to work in a phone booth and take on blockers. Okereke doesn’t shy away from contact and can hold his ground.

However, this isn’t much use if he fails to disengage and get to the runner. He gives up too much of his frame which allows the blocker to control the action. Okereke needs to attack with authority and deliver a punch.

He also needs to do a better job reading his keys and attacking at full force. Overall, there just isn’t a lot that shows Okereke is a legitimate NFL prospect.
