Seattle Seahawks Offseason Review
By Jon Dove
The Seattle Seahawks went through a tough offseason, but are hoping that they made enough key additions to remain in the playoff mix.
Russell Wilson will be surrounded by a very different offensive cast this season. Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett are back in the mix, but Paul Richardson and Jimmy Graham are gone. The running back group is also different.
Seattle brought in Jaron Brown and Brandon Marshall to help at the wide receiver spot. Brown has shown flashes during his career but hasn’t been able to perform on a consistent level. Marshall is coming off a injury-plagued season where he failed to live up to expectations.
Wilson will need to use the offseason program to create chemistry with his new receivers. This includes pass-catching tight end Ed Dickson.
The Seahawks also used a draft pick to bring in local product Will Dissly at tight end. He has the upside to be an NFL Starter, but he’s likely a few years away from being ready to contribute. This means that Dickson will have a major role in the offensive attack.

Seattle used their 1st round pick on running back Rashaad Penny. This came as a major surprise as many saw him as a 2nd round pick at best. However, the investment made by the Seahawks means that Penny will get plenty of touches.
He figures to share the workload with Chris Carson, Mike Davis and CJ Prosise.
The offensive line adds DJ Fluker and rookie Jamarco Jones. Fluker will have a chance to earn a starting guard spot while Jones has the potential to develop into a starting tackle.
Defensively, the Seahawks bulked up along the defensive line. Free agent signee Shamar Stephen is an underrated player who will provide top-notch run support. He will be joined by rookie Rasheem Green as new rotational pieces.
Green is a versatile defender who is just scratching the surface of his potential. He’s a two-play player who can generate some pressure but also hold up against the run.
The linebacker group added Barkevious Mingo and draft darling Shaquem Griffin. Bobby Wagner and KJ Wright will get majority of playing time at linebacker, but both newcomers could see action in certain packages.
Seattle’s secondary is undergoing a change, but the team only added mid-round rookie Tre Flowers. He’s a safety prospect who will have a hard time earning playing time on defense.
