The Oakland Raiders aren’t expected to be in the 2019 NFL Draft quarterback market, but GM Mike Mayock is a big fan of the top prospects at the position.
Oakland Raiders general manager Mike Mayock appeared on the Dan Patrick show Friday and had some glowing words for the top quarterback prospects in the 2019 NFL draft.
“Kyler Murray is intriguing,” Mayock said. “It’s become such a quarterback-driven league. Every year when I was an analyst I felt like there were three or four quarterbacks that probably should have been mid-to-late first-rounders for true value and they always got pushed into the top 10 or five.”
“Kyler Murray has special talent, Dwayne Haskins has special talent,” Mayock continued. “The kid from Mizzou has special talent. So, yeah, I think all those guys are very intriguing.”
The Raiders own the fourth overall pick and with Murray likely destined for the top pick in the draft, it’s highly unlikely Oakland will have a chance to draft him. If, however, the former Oklahoma standout slips to No. 4, all bets are off. The Raiders added a lot of firepower to their receiver group in free agency (Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams) and while Derek Carr certainly has enough talent to be a quality starter, Murray is a potential difference maker.
And if Mayock like him that much, he does have a few extra first-rounders he can package to move up to the top pick.

Haskins is a different story, however. Sure, he has a big-league arm, but he’s going to be completely dependent on a strong offensive line in order to thrive in the NFL. He’s the definition of a stationary pocket-passer, and while that will appeal to some teams, it’s unlikely the Raiders will be one of them. That said, Mayock is doing his job as a GM by fluffing Haskins’ potential trade value.
Lock, much like Haskins, has too many warts on tape to warrant a top-10 pick, let alone a top-five selection. But quarterback-needy teams might flinch after hearing Mayock’s comments and try to move into or ahead of Oakland’s spot to secure their guy.
Smart money is on three quarterbacks going in the first round, but only one coming off the board in the top 10.
