Cardinals meeting with Kyler Murray on Oklahoma campus
By Bryan Perez
The Arizona Cardinals and QB Kyler Murray will meet on the Oklahoma campus in advance of the 2019 NFL Draft.
As if the rumors of Kyler Murray to the Arizona Cardinals with the No. 1 overall pick weren’t already swirling, news of the team meeting with the dazzling quarterback on Oklahoma’s campus Tuesday has turned them into a full-blown tornado.
The Cardinals weren’t present at Murray’s pro day, a move that caused some to speculate their interest was waning. But remember: none of the Browns’ brass attended Baker Mayfield’s pro day last year, and we know how that turned out.
Murray seems destined to go to Arizona with the top pick, especially with coach Kliff Kingsbury in control of the Cardinals’ new offensive attack. He’s certain to want a player with Murray’s skill set more than Josh Rosen’s, last year’s first-round pick (No. 10 overall), to manage his run-and-gun style of play.
Murray cemented his stock, oddly enough, as a high first-round pick at the NFL combine when he measured in at 5-10 and 207 pounds. Never has a weigh-in meant so much to a prospect’s draft stock as much as this year’s meant to Murray. In fact, it was so important that Murray refused to have his height re-checked at his Pro Day. Most players stand on their 40-yard dash times or other athletic testing results from the combine; Murray rested on his height.
If the Cardinals do select Murray with the No. 1 pick, the drama won’t end there. Rosen will be a hot commodity in the trade market and teams will know Arizona has no choice but to trade him once they pull the trigger on Murray.
Man, this is going to be fun.
