Oklahoma WR Marquise Brown cleared to begin running
By Bryan Perez
One of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2019 NFL draft, Oklahoma’s Marquise Brown, had the boot removed from his injured foot Thursday and was cleared to begin running, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Brown was at one time considered the top receiver in the class but has since fallen behind the likes of D.K. Metcalf (Ole Miss) and Hakeem Butler (Iowa State) because of his injury. His skill set is similar to DeSean Jackson, who was selected in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft.

Jackson quickly emerged as one of the NFL’s biggest weapons, an expectation that’s reasonable for Brown assuming he can make a full recovery.
The timing of Brown’s injury is unfortunate. He won’t be able to work out for teams prior to the NFL draft and for a player as small in stature as he is — 5-9, 166 pounds — his draft value comes down to speed. His tape is a display of elite field-flipping ability, so there’s little doubt he’ll outrun defenders in the NFL. But it’s a big guessing game right now for NFL general managers.
Brown played in 12 games last season, recording 75 catches for 1,318 yards and 10 scores. He was Kyler Murray’s favorite target, and it’s not out of the question for the two to be reunited in Arizona in April. The Cardinals are expected to select Murray with the No. 1 overall pick and could target a player with Brown’s ability in the second round.
