The Arizona Cardinals are doing their due diligence on Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray and will host the Heisman Trophy winner on a pre-draft visit this week.

The 2019 NFL draft is just over two weeks away and teams are in the midst of using their valuable 30 pre-draft visits in order to learn as much as possible about a select group of prospects in this year’s class.

Sometimes, those visits are used for medical re-checks. Other times, they’re used to answer questions about a player’s football IQ. But then there are visits that mean a whole lot more.

One of them is happening this week in Arizona; QB Kyler Murray is visiting the Cardinals in what could be the final step in the Heisman Trophy winner becoming the No. 1 overall pick.

“Kyler Murray headed to Arizona today for a visit with the Arizona Cardinals,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo tweeted Tuesday. “Murray’s agent is accompanying him. He also reps Kliff Kingsbury.”

Hmm. Murray’s agent is going, too? It certainly makes sense to at least begin discussions about contract language if the Cardinals are sold on Murray. It’s also smart to gauge whether Murray will be a troublesome negotiation; if so, there’s that Nick Bosa guy ready to step in at No. 1.

Murray has had quite the ride through the NFL draft process. The baseball-turned-football player solidified his status as an elite prospect when he checked in at 5-10 at the NFL combine, and with the Cardinals seeking a completely new identity out west, it makes sense for Murray to be the pick even with last year’s first-rounder, Josh Rosen, already on the roster.

This crazy ride is far from over, however. The Murray-Rosen dynamic is the most interesting draft storyline going right now and should lead to a pre-draft trade or a really awkward minicamp circuit.
