Despite needing a quarterback-of-the-future, the New York Giants may be out of the running for Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen.

The New York Giants are routinely one of the first teams mentioned anytime potential trade partners for the Arizona Cardinals and Josh Rosen comes up, but their connection to Rosen and the quarterback market, in general, may be nothing more than high-stakes speculation.

According to SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano, the Giants have no intention of trading either of their two first-round picks for Rosen. In fact, they’re more likely to trade back from, say, the No. 17 overall than they are to use it to acquire the Cardinals’ first-rounder from a year ago.

“The Giants have no interest in trading the sixth overall pick, and while the 17th pick could be available if they decide to trade up or down in the first round, they’re not going to send it to Arizona for Rosen,” Vacchiano wrote. “So if the Redskins really do offer the 15th overall pick, the Giants are out.”

Believe it or not, New York may not be willing to part ways with their second-round pick for Rosen, either.

“Even the Giants’ second-round pick (37th overall) might be too high of a price.,” Vacchiano said. “They value that pick and think they can get a player with a first-round grade at that spot. So to trade it for Rosen, they might need something else in return.”

Assuming Vacchiano’s report is accurate, it’s even more evidence of GM Dave Gettleman’s complete and utter failure at assessing player value. Rosen was one of the premier quarterbacks in last year’s draft and nothing much has changed since then aside from a challenging rookie season that was in large part due to a horrendous supporting cast.

If, for argument’s sake, Rosen can be had for the 37th pick and Gettleman passes? It would be a surprise if he lasted in his position through season’s end.

Remember: Gettleman made the controversial decision to select Saquon Barkley over Sam Darnold last year. Many draft analysts are still crushing him for that choice. He can quickly right the ship by adding Rosen, who some had ranked ahead of Darnold in their 2018 quarterback rankings.

Wake up New York, before you waste a generational talent like Barkley.
