Round 3, Pick 79: Miles Sanders, RB, Penn State

The loss of Tevin Coleman in free agency suddenly makes running back a need for the Falcons at some point in the 2019 NFL draft, and with Miles Sanders on the board here in the third round, Atlanta gets a do-it-all, three-down player who can complement veteran Devonta Freeman.

Freeman’s recent injury history has raised questions about his ability to shoulder the load as a lead back moving forward, and there’s a chance the Falcons could part ways with him at the end of the season. Sanders provides the ultimate insurance policy in that scenario. In fact, Sanders might have more upside as a feature back than Freeman.
