Are the Cardinals going to trade the No. 1 pick?
By Bryan Perez
With the 2019 NFL draft just days away, the Arizona Cardinals have started receiving calls about trading out of the first overall pick.
The Arizona Cardinals currently hold the first pick of the 2019 NFL draft, which kicks off Thursday night in Nashville Tennessee, but will they be the team that ends up selecting there? According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals are receiving feeler phone calls about a trade and still haven’t made a final decision about their draft strategy.
“General manager Steve Keim, coach Kliff Kingsbury and owner Michael Bidwell will have a meeting over the next couple days to discuss their options at No. 1,” Rapoport tweeted. “The Cardinals have received feeler calls from teams inquiring about trading up, as well.”

It’s common practice for teams to make a late push to acquire the first overall pick if they indeed have a prospect graded highly enough to warrant such a move. Former Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray is the top-rated passer in this year’s class and is the front-runner to be the first player selected, but with talented defenders like Nick Bosa (Ohio State), Quinnen Williams (Alabama) and even Ed Oliver (Houston) all garnering top-five status, teams might be willing to make a strong move to the top of the draft if they need a blue-chip defender.
It’s highly unlikely, however, that the Cardinals will, in fact, trade the pick. We’re just a few days away from the draft kicking off and with the entire post-NFL combine narrative connecting Murray to Arizona, it’d be a hard sell to imagine the team moving off of that position.
Sure, it’s possible that draft media has been way off with its assessment of Murray’s chances to become a Cardinal, but even if Arizona isn’t interested the Heisman Trophy winner, a prospect like Bosa or Williams is just too talented to trade away from.
Don’t expect a Cardinals trade to happen, unless, of course, it involves Josh Rosen.
