In FanSided’s latest 2020 NFL Mock Draft, the Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals get their quarterbacks of the future with the first and second overall picks.

We’re still many, many, MANY months away from the 2020 NFL draft season kicking into high gear. In fact, we don’t even know what the actual prospect pool will be. Juniors projected as high picks right now will return to school for their senior seasons, and some seniors with promising resumes could experience a regression in their final year on campus.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a good mock draft!

One theme is pretty prevalent in mock drafts right now: there are two quarterbacks in the mix to be the No. 1 overall pick. And that’s a great thing for draft fans. Blue-chip quarterback prospects make the draft process more entertaining and increase the drama at the top of the first round. Teams are more likely to mortgage the future and trade up for their ‘savior.’

Fansided’s Patrick Schmidt published his latest 2020 NFL mock draft last week and kept with the quarterbacks-at-the-top narrative.

At first overall, it’s Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa who the Miami Dolphins peg as the future of their franchise.

“The Dolphins traded for Josh Rosen during the 2019 NFL Draft but he’s very much auditioning to be the guy there long-term,” Schmidt wrote. “If the Dolphins do get the top pick, Rosen won’t have helped his case. Tua Tagovailoa has special arm talent and accuracy and if he gets through this season healthy and plays well vs. the top defenses he faces, he’ll be the top pick.”

That leaves Herbert at No. 2, to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Justin Herbert has all the physical tools to be a franchise quarterback. He just has to get through his final season at Oregon unscathed after battling injuries in recent years.”

These picks seem really logical and pretty safe right now. Reports of Rosen struggling at Dolphins training camp have already made their way to the Twitter universe, and it’s the worst kept secret in football that Andy Dalton isn’t the long-term answer for the Bengals’ new coaching staff. If the draft order ends up with Miami and Cincinnati picking first and second, you can etch Tagovailoa and Herbert’s name in ink at the top.

One of the best picks of this mock draft is at No. 3, where the Arizona Cardinals select Georgia offensive tackle, Andrew Thomas. He’s my highest-graded offensive lineman entering the 2019 college football season and would be the perfect combination of value meeting need for Arizona if they end up with a top-five selection.

The Cardinals invested in quarterback and wide receiver in the 2019 NFL draft and already have a top-tier running back in place with David Johnson. The only thing missing on offense is a blue-chip offensive lineman to build around, and Thomas would be that guy.
