2020 NFL Draft: Chase Young tops list of high-potential edge rushers
Violent. That’s the best word to describe Auburn’s Nick Coe. He imposes fear on opposing teams with his high motor and ill intentions when he reaches the ball. In nine games last year, Coe collected seven sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss.
Like Epenesa, Coe will fit in nicely as a 4-3 end with the versatility to move inside. Listed at 6’5, 290 pounds, he’s faster than Espenesa, though he lacks the same polish as a pass rusher.
His strong hands and speed can beat most college tackles at the point of attack. However, if his initial move fails him he can get anchored, stuck hand fighting his blocker. He’ll need to improve this for the NFL, as winning at the jump play in and play out won’t be nearly as easy for him. Regardless, he shows great potential to be an elite rusher at the next level thanks to his physical tools alone.
As a run defender, Coe is just as relentless. This is where his strength really comes into play. Coe is unaffected by potential blockers and sheds them quickly and efficiently. It can’t be stressed enough that when a ball carrier is within Coe’s reach that player is in serious trouble. Coe is a ruthless tackler who is rarely fooled.
Coe is just one piece of a dangerous Tiger defensive front. If he shows improvement and polishes his technique as a pass rusher he will skyrocket up draft boards.
