2020 NFL Draft: Auburn’s Derrick Brown anchors D-Line class
Robert Landers is a very similar prospect to Marvin Wilson, he’s just not had quite the same impact yet. Still, he’s a name who could climb draft boards while scouts watch his teammate Chase Young on the edge.
Landers is a high motor player with slippery athleticism. Linemen can’t seem to grasp this guy. He has quick, active feet preceded by an explosive get off at the snap. He needs work using his hands, as his quickness bails him out more often than not. Still, he has good pass rush moves. However, oftentimes he uses them a bit too late in his attack. It’s a bit worrisome that he only has 2.5 sacks so far in his career considering his elusiveness.
To counter that, however, he has recorded 18 tackles for loss in his first three seasons at Ohio State. He’s effective in the run game, keeping blockers off his body and closing to the runner in a hurry.
Landers isn’t the strongest player in the trenches. Again, his speed bails him out. Regardless, the Buckeyes line him up at the nose quite a bit and he holds his own, though he doesn’t get quite the same push. He excels more at the three-technique, which allows him to use his speed better and give him more one-on-ones.
With a strong season, there’s little reason not to expect Landers to hear his name in the later stages of the first round.
