Jeremy Chinn, Safety, Southern Illinois

Season Stats: 19 Total Tackles| 2 INT

Career Stats: 191 Total Tackles| 2.5 TFL| 11 INT| 26 PD| 6 FF

Much like fellow small-school safety Kyle Dugger, Chinn possesses prototypical NFL size for the safety position at 6-foot-3, 212 pounds. Outside of the size, there is not much else you can compare between Dugger and Chinn. Chinn is more of a coverage safety while Dugger excels more in the box.

Chinn has good range roaming the deep middle of the field in zone coverage. He is also good in man coverage against tight ends and running backs and he has some experience playing cornerback in college. He knows how to make plays on the ball as evidenced by his impressive 11 career interceptions. Chinn can excel in a similar CB/S-hybrid role to the one that Jimmie Ward has played in San Francisco.

If there is a knock on Chinn it’s that he isn’t very physical from his safety spot and is not one to come downhill and lay the wood in the run game. He also has a pretty extensive injury history especially when it comes to his shoulder. His talent, however, should get him draft at some point on Day 3 of the 2020 Draft.

Projection: Late Round Pick (6th-7th Round)
