California. Ashtyn Davis. player. 123. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. S. 21

With the 21st pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select Ashtyn Davis, safety, California.

This pick may be a bit of a reach for the Cowboys here, but as they seem to always be desperate to get a safety that is not named Jeff Heath, why not take a chance on the highly active and athletic Ashtyn Davis from California? A former collegiate track runner, Davis is a rangy safety who cover ground rather quickly in the third level of the Golden Bears’ defense.

After a junior year where Davis recorded four picks, and five passes defended, he has played his way into a Senior Bowl invite, as he has recorded one interception and four passes defended for Cal this year. His film is a thrill to watch as he can play in the box, over the top, and cover ground with what seems like just a few strides.

The Cowboys were almost willing to give up multiple first round picks for New York Jets’ safety, so using one first round pick to reach a tiny bit on Davis, who will probably be an early-to-mid second rounder, doesn’t seem improbable as Dallas can now control a fifth year option on Davis as well.
