2020 NFL Draft: D’Andre Swift the perfect weapon for today’s NFL
By Cory Kinnan
A patient, big play waiting to happen
D’Andre Swift’s vision and decisiveness, while it has room for improvement, is still one of the best in the class; he has great patience in the backfield as he looks to find a hole to run through. This clip below from the SEC Championship game displays that patience and vision well, as he waits for a hole to develop before making himself small, fits through the running lane, and gets into the endzone.
In a second clip below, Swift uses a backfield studder step to keep his feet churning while waiting for a hole to develop, then hits the hole with his explosiveness before bursting off to the races. Again his burst is not the best in the class, but it is more than enough for him to compete at the next level as he has great top end speed once gets past the second level of the defense.
Another example of Swift’s dynamic, explosive nature, he catches a pass in the flat in this next clip, uses his footwork and vision to cut off his blockers, and then turn on the jets as he is off to the races. With Swift, there is no use in relying on the myth of establishing the run, but rather just get him the ball and let him make plays.
