10
Jaylon Johnson 1
Scouting Report
Jaylon Johnson is a consistent playmaker who stands out as the best player in an already loaded Utah secondary. He displays good foot speed to carry vertical routes and has a good amount of tape showing good ball skills to make plays on vertical throws. Johnson crowds receivers at the LOS while effectively using his hands to throw jabs and disrupt timing. He flips his hips with ease showing good fluidity to stay in close contact with the receiver.

He plays the game with a physicality in all phases including run support, as he is very willing to lay a hit on ball carriers despite not always wrapping up. There is a lot to like about Johnson’s game as a guy who finds the football with a gambler’s mentality. He can often hurt himself being too aggressive on routes and being susceptible to a double move.
There are concerns about his eye discipline as he doesn’t consistently read or leverage routes due to burning his eyes on the quarterback. He will draw a lot of flags at the next level due to him being grabby once the ball is in the air instead trusting his ability to play the football.
Johnson has some traits that make him projectable as a cover 3 cornerback once he becomes more consistent in his mental processing. Jaylon Johnson is a fringe top 10 cornerback in this 2020 NFL Draft class whose flashes will rise him up some boards but his inconsistencies will hinder his rise and possibly lead to him falling outside of the Top 10 as this deep class of corners begins to take shape.
