Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. DE. player. 819. Notre Dame. Khalid Kareem. 53

Julian Okwara gets all the love as the better edge rusher for the Fighting Irish. Khalid Kareem should not be forgotten, however. In fact, Kareem has put together the better season statistically of the two in 2019. He leads the team in sacks with 5.5 while also totaling 40 total tackles and three forced fumbles on the year.

More from With the First Pick

Kareem has an excellent build that projects very well to the NFL. He is listed at 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds with very long arms. He uses his length and hands well to shed blocks and get after the quarterback. He also plays with good power and leverage at the point of attack and does a good job setting the edge in the run game. While he has some speed, burst, and bend as a pass rusher of the edge, that is not his primary way of winning.

Kareem will be a gigantic part of Notre Dame’s pass rush versus Stanford, especially after the recent injuries to Okwara and Daelin Hayes. Expect Notre Dame to move him around to get him in favorable matchups against an offensive line that has been riddled by injuries as well. Stanford will need to know where number 53 is at all times during the game.
