Scouting Report

In a star-studded receiver class, Colorado receiver Laviska Shenault announced that he is declaring for the 2020 NFL Draft.

News that is not surprising to hear today, Colorado star wide receiver Laviska Shenault has declared for the 2020 NFL Draft. Shenault is projected as a top-three-to-five receiver by most draft writers, and is this writer’s third ranked wide receiver heading towards April.

Colorado is not bowl eligible, so Shenault will not have to face the decision as to play in this postseason game or not. It would seem like Shenault’s ceiling is a mid-first rounder and his floor is an early second round pick at this point in the pre-draft process.

Listed at 6-2 and 220 pounds, Shenault is one of the bigger, more versatile receivers in the class who demonstrates good speed and body control down the field. It has been hard to get a good read on Shenault this year as he was playing in Colorado’s putrid offense led by future XFL quarterback Steven Montez.

More from With the First Pick

Last year, Shenault tallied 1,011 yards receiving and six scores on 86 catches. This year, battling through some nagging injuries, Shenault saw his production take a dip to 764 yards receiving and four scores on 56 catches.

Shenault has displayed strength to break tackles with ease, making him a threat to pick up chunks of yardage after the catch. He is an elite downfield receiver who wins on 50/50 balls more than he loses; he has great catch comfortability and strong hands as he high points the football and tends to come down with it in tight windows.

Shenault’s college career is over, and now it is on to the 2020 NFL Draft as he looks the part of a big league receiver. He should wow at the combine as April cannot get here soon enough.
