Scouting Report

Jamison Crowder, Robby Anderson, and Demaryius Thomas are the Jets’ top three targets right now in the passing attack, meaning they could use a bit of an upgrade. Here in the third round, their first of two third round picks, the Jets add Alabama standout DeVonta Smith to their receiving corp.

Smith, oddly enough, gives off Quincy Enunwa vibes with his ability to be a reliable target in the passing game and a great security blanket. He is savvy at finding holes in zone coverage and flashing his number to his quarterback, but also has the potential to provide a spark after the catch as well.

While Smith is not as highly thought of as first round prospects Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs, he cannot be forgotten about in this Alabama passing attack. This season, Smith has tallied 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns on 65 catches for the Crimson Tide; he is averaging an astounding 18 yards per reception this year.

Giving Sam Darnold a worthy security blanket, the Jets add Smith, who could be on the rise. Robby Anderson as a deep threat, Crowder as a slot, the Jets now get a solid underneath receiver in case Enunwa never gets healthy.
