Scouting Report

As previously mentioned, Tremaine Johnson looks tapped out for the Jets this season after signing a massive deal just two years ago. Outside of Johnson, the Jets have been starting Nate Hairston and Darryl Roberts at the cornerback spot this season, which has been less than ideal.

Here in the second round, the Jets look to upgrade their secondary by adding Ohio State redshirt sophomore cornerback Shaun Wade, who can be a Swiss Army Knife for Gregg Williams’ defense. After a strong season with the Buckeyes in 2019, Wade has put himself in position to be a first round pick, but in this mock he fell into the Jets’ lap with the 41st pick in the draft.

Wade, who plays predominantly in the nickel for the Buckeyes this year with top-ten pick Jeffrey Okudah and top 60 pick Damon Arnette playing outside the numbers, has great hip fluidity and shows strong man coverage skills. At 6-1, Wade has the size necessary to take the toll of pressing bigger receivers outside; he has lined up over the top at safety for the Buckeyes on occasion as well.

This season, Wade has shown tremendous ability to make a plays in the backfield off the edge, tallying three tackles for loss and two sacks; he has also added another interception and seven passes defended, while forcing two fumbles. The Jets get the talented, versatile playing in Wade here in the second round.
