2020 NFL Draft: Selecting collegiate head coaches to needy teams
By Cory Kinnan
With the second pick in the draft, Washington selects Ryan Day, Ohio State. Jay Gruden was a dead man walking this season, far before the videos of him hanging out at the club late night. They drafted Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins in the first round of last year’s draft, and who better to groom him in his NFL career than the man that found him in the first place in Day?
Ryan Day remains a wildcard, because nobody really knows what is deep aspirations are; does he want to stay at the college level, or does he want to work his way into the pros and become a household name at the highest level? While he just signed a massive deal with the Buckeyes last year when Urban Meyer stepped down, there is nothing holding Day back from taking the leap as early as one year later.
During his time as the interim head coach for the Buckeyes last year, Day went undefeated in his three game reign. This year, Day has been a little more impressive than just 3-0, as he has the Buckeyes undefeated, in the Big Ten title game this weekend, and as the top ranked team in the nation.
Day and Haskins have familiarity, making this fit a natural one for both the head coach and for Washington.
