3. Cam Akers, Florida State

Cam Akers is a difficult projection. He was expected to be a star, but has struggled along with the Florida State Seminoles football team. In 2019, he put some things together and had his best season with over 1,300 total yards and 18 touchdowns. The skills he entered college with are still evident on tape.

Akers’ biggest asset is his speed and acceleration. In the clip, he separates from the defender, makes the catch, and speeds to the endzone. He has elite speed and big-play ability. He has also improved as a blocker this season making him more valuable to NFL teams. If he had played with better talent around him, his numbers might have been video game-like.

Playing behind one of college football’s worst offensive line over the past few years has hurt Akers’ stock as much as anything he did, or didn’t do in his career. However, his traits are top notch and he can be a weapon as a professional ball carrier.

If you are able to truly watch Akers despite the struggling Florida State offensive line, a talented and versatile back arises. He could be an interesting name to watch in the 2020 NFL Draft.
