Scouting Report

Wisconsin has had a more confidence putting the ball in the air in recent weeks which is strange to see from such a run heavy offense. A lot of that confidence can be credited to wide receiver Quintez Cephus who continues to carve out himself a role in this offense. Fresh off a 114 yard and one touchdown performance against Minnesota, Cephus went back to work this week for seven catches and 122 yards against a Ohio State secondary loaded with 2020 NFL Draft prospects.

More from With the First Pick

Cephus stepped up and showed that he could compete on the biggest stage and that will carry a lot of weight for his draft stock. His biggest play of the night was an acrobatic display of concentration and athleticism when he went over the top on an Ohio State corner.

Cephus created separation vertically in the route, showing his speed as a vertical threat. The ball was underthrown and would’ve caused most receivers to become frustrated with the quarterback leaving them out to dry. Cephus recognizes the underthrown and adjusts to hang in the air for what seemingly felt like forever. Notice how natural he is plucking the ball out of the air which is a testament to his ability as a natural hands catcher.

Cephus is draft-eligible this year but his late burst onto the scene might see him feel the need to return to school for another year. If he goes back to school then he has definitely earned himself a good amount of momentum to head into next season. Quintez Cephus is a name to watch no matter what draft class he decides to place himself in.
