Day Three

4th ROUND, 98th overall: Bryan Edwards | Wide receiver | South Carolina | Junior

One thing the Giants haven’t lacked is playmakers. With Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram, Darius Slayton, and the aforementioned Barkley on the roster, Daniel Jones is in a prime position to grow further as the franchise quarterback. However, the Giants do desperately need a bigger-bodied receiver that can dominate outside and balance out the speed of Slayton, and Shepard’s excellence in the slot.

Enter Bryan Edwards.

Another chiseled athlete, Edwards plays with great physicality. He runs violently with the ball in his hands and is surprisingly agile for a taller receiver. Most importantly, Edwards is competitive at the catch point, and while he struggles at times with press coverage, he doesn’t back down from the physical challenge that is man to man assignments.

He’s a tone-setter that can grind out crucial third downs and plays to the whistle. Not to mention, he’s a very willing run blocker on the perimeter. His attitude would be a welcome addition to Big Blue’s locker room.

5th ROUND, 130th overall: Justin Strnad | Linebacker | Wake Forest | Senior

The Giants desperately need to bolster their linebacker corps, which has not been a strength on the roster for a decade. In this same round, former Wisconsin linebacker Ryan Connelly was drafted by the Giants in 2019 and proceeded to drastically exceed expectations in the brief time he played before the injury. Barring setbacks or a complete schematic change, it’s necessary for the Giants to find someone with the range and movement skills as Connelly in open space.

Strnad is an agile defender, moving effortlessly from sideline to sideline and displaying smoothness in his coverage drops. He’s adept at handling zone assignments and has the athleticism to play man coverage too.

In addition, listed at 6’3” and 235 pounds, Strnad has the modern NFL linebacker body type. With improvement cracking down versus the run, Strnad could be a three to four-year complement to Connelly and shore up the inside linebacker position in the Giants’ 3-4 base defense.
