2020 NFL Draft: Offensive linemen rising in postseason mock draft
By Jeremy Meek
The Eagles were not expecting to be in this position just a few seasons removed from a Super Bowl win. Despite expectations, they sit at 6-7 and haven’t looked competitive far too often. One of the biggest issues in 2019 has been bad receiver play. Dropped passes and inability to stay on the field and get open have crippled the offense.
Jerry Jeudy might be the best receiver in this class. He is certainly the best route runner. He isn’t the burner that Henry Ruggs is, but he has tremendous feet and is fast enough to get deep on a defense. Even in Alabama’s crowded WR unit, he managed 1,000 yards in each of the past two seasons and totaled 23 touchdowns.
The Indianapolis Colts signed Justin Houston to help improve their pass rush this offseason, but they’re still in the bottom half of the league in terms of sacks. They’re also 17th in points allowed per game. Quarterback and receiver are an option here, but adding another pass rusher is never a bad thing in the NFL.
In terms of speed rushers, K’Lavon Chaisson might be the best in the 2020 class. He used his speed and athleticism to rack up 11.5 sacks this season, and has been a key part of a dominant defense. He can make an immediate impact on passing downs.
Another team struggling to stop opposing offenses, the Raiders have won games despite that. They’re 29th in the league in points allowed per game. The linebackers in particular just aren’t good enough, and they’re getting exposed too often. An upgrade there could make a big difference going forward.
The best linebacker, and maybe defensive playmaker, in the draft is Isaiah Simmons. He’s the type of rangy player teams need in the NFL these days, able to range sideline to sideline, and also cover tight ends down the field. He’s a steal if he falls to this pick as he does in this mock draft.
