D’Andre Swift will wait to decide on whether he declares for the 2020 NFL Draft until after Georgia’s Sugar Bowl clash with Baylor.

D’Andre Swift isn’t declaring for the 2020 NFL Draft, at least not yet anyway.

Seth Emerson of The Athletic reported on Tuesday that Swift was joining Georgia teammates Andrew Thomas and Isaiah Wilson in deciding to turn pro.

Swift, however, denied the report on Twitter, stating he will not make his decision on whether to declare until after the Sugar Bowl game against Baylor on January 1. Emerson retracted the report and has apologized for the error.

Though he is waiting on announcing if he will forgo his senior season at Georgia, it appears Swift is only delaying the inevitable. He is firmly in the conversation to be the first running back off the board and would have little to gain in terms of his stock by heading back to Georgia for another year.

His status as arguably the 2020 draft’s top back is well earned. Swift is an explosive and elusive runner who projects as the perfect fit for the modern NFL with his ability to make a devastating impact in the passing game as well as on the ground.

Through three seasons with Georgia, Swift has 3,549 yards from scrimmage and 25 total touchdowns. He has averaged 6.6 yards per carry and 9.1 yards per reception.

With the value of taking running backs in the first round still very much up for debate, there is a chance Swift may have to wait until day two to hear his name called.

However, that should not impact his decision. Swift has proven his worth at the collegiate level and will surely be seen by evaluators as a back who can become an integral part of an NFL team’s offense right off the bat. It would be a significant surprise to see Swift shun the pros for another year, and the Sugar Bowl will likely mark his farewell. Georgia fans will hope it is a memorable one.
