North Carolina. Chazz Surratt. 21. 838. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. LB. player

Chazz Surratt is arguably the highest-ranked prospect in the Military Bowl with the most NFL potential. He is only a Redshirt Junior so he could return to school in 2020 if he so chooses. That could be beneficial to his draft stock as he is a former quarterback who just recently switched to linebacker and is still learning the nuances of the position.

More from With the First Pick

Even while learning the position, Surratt was all over the field and clearly led the Tar Heels in tackles with 110 total tackles. He also contributed 13.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, one interception, and two pass breakups.

Surratt has prototypical size for the linebacker position as he is listed at 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds. He has excellent athleticism and speed to make plays sideline-to-sideline. He is equally adept at playing downhill against the run as well as locking down receivers and tight ends in coverage. Some things he needs to work on and improve through experience is finding the ball on misdirection, better angles, and add a little more strength and muscle.

Surratt is new to the linebacker position and thus is a very raw prospect. His speed, athleticism, and versatility will entice NFL teams to take a chance on developing him into a stud linebacker at the next level. That being said, he could benefit from more experience at the position and return to school in 2020 to improve his draft stock. No matter what he decides regarding his NFL future, expect Surratt to be all over the field and lead the defense versus Temple.
