Scouting Report

Shaun Wade has a chance to give the world a glimpse of is elite versatility that makes him the enigma of this year’s draft class. His versatility is exciting and will have teams guessing of where to put him as a prospect. He made an appearance in my top 10 cornerback rankings but his ranking is held down due to lack of film at the outside cornerback spot. A move to the top spot in the nickel rankings may be in order as well. On Saturday you’ll see why there’s so many options for this guy as a prospect at the next level.

He has very good athletic ability and hip fluidity to play on the outside as a corner. A lot of his tape is him playing in the slot which gives you very good insight into his ability to become an elite nickel in the NFL. He shows the speed to run with smaller slots stride for stride. The strength and size aspects are there for him to be a guy who erases tight ends as well.

The best part of his game is watching him being a force in run support; he consistently blows up blockers with a vengeance and showing the ability to be a consistent block shedder. Wade sets the edge of the defense which is a necessity for a nickel defender and is a very good tackler in space.

Wade will have to show up as an X-factor on Saturday night because Clemson is loaded with weapons at wide receiver. There is a lot to like about his game so hopefully it shows up big on the biggest stage he’ll play on to date despite being a little hampered with a hamstring injury. Shaun Wade is a first rounder come April that can fix a lot of issues for an NFL defense and Saturday will be his coming out party to a national audience.
