Scouting Report

We all know how special of a pass rusher is so, of course he would be a player to watch in the game. This time around he isn’t the player to watch just because of his ability, Young is the player to watch because we’re all curious to see how much attention Clemson gives him. On the other hand, it’s also going to be important to see how often Ohio State moves him around to mix up the looks.

Chase Young has elite upfield burst that is jaw dropping for a guy who stands at 6-5 and 265lbs. He often finds himself in the backfield before the offensive tackle can even begin their pass pro set. Young is seemingly always right on time, making a big play in the backfield on almost every crucial down.

He can beat you with his upfield burst or he can overwhelm you with his strength and blow right through you. One of the biggest improvements in his game so far this year has been his ability to use his hands to get him free. The improved hand usage has given him more of an arsenal as a pass rusher who needed to develop counter moves. Granted, he probably doesn’t need any counter moves at this point in his career because he gets where he wants at any time he wants.

Young has undoubtedly been the best player in college football this year on the defensive side of the football. All the games beforehand don’t have the magnitude and weight that this game will hold though. Chase Young showing up and dominating in the biggest game for his team all year will further solidify his case as being as elite of a pass rusher we have seen in recent memory.
