More from With the First Pick

By this point, you’ve probably heard the name, Justin Herbert. Herbert is the prototypical NFL quarterback: he has a big arm, the right size, and he can make any throw on the field. However, he has struggled through his senior season to have his “Heisman moment” — otherwise referred to as a game scouts can point to where he lit up the opposition — but the opportunity is there against the Badgers.

He had one his best performances of the year in the Pac-12 title game against Utah, but many evaluators are still hesitant to crown him. If he wants to help his stock, a big game against Wisconsin (one of the best defenses in the nation) is an absolute must at this point, especially if he chooses not to attend the Senior Bowl.

Scouting Report

A name the common fan has probably not heard of; Jordon Scott is a run stuffer. Small in stature — 6’1″ 322 pounds — but he packs a punch at the line-of-scrimmage (LOS). Scott will need to have one of his best games if Oregon wants to win this game with the Badgers being a run-heavy offense.

He isn’t the most productive player in college football, but the impact he has on the field is huge. He is going to control the A-gap forcing the runningback off track and allowing his teammates to make the play. Scott isn’t likely going to go high in the draft, but he will play a major role in this match-up.

Troy Dye Linebacker

Scouting Report

Similar to Scott, Troy Dye will need to have a huge game if the Ducks hope to win the Rose Bowl. Dye is more of a cover linebacker, as opposed to a run stopper, but he will need to be on his game when going up against Wisconsin and Jonathan Taylor (one of the best running backs in college football).

Dye will be playing with an injured hand, but that didn’t stop him from making the game-winning — even though the game was pretty much over — interception against Utah. This game could be huge for Dye’s draft stock if he can prove to be more than just an athlete in space and show scouts and general managers that he isn’t afraid to put his head in the hole and commit to stopping the run.
