3. Carolina Panthers

More from With the First Pick

With a new coaching staff, it is possible that it’s the perfect time for the Panthers to move on from former NFL MVP, Cam Newton. Newton has been plagued with injuries and has not been able to contribute as of late. Drafting a young, talented, and athletic quarterback such as Oregon’s Justin Herbert could be the move. The new offensive coordinator, Joe Brady, would pair well with Herbert, utilizing his arm strength and talent more than Oregon. Herbert poses similar threats as Newton and would give new light at the position.

4. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts lost a huge piece to their puzzle when Andrew Luck retired, Jacoby Brissett played admirably given the circumstances, but is not the long term solution for Indianapolis. However, Jordan Love out of Utah State may just be the developmental piece that General Manager, Chris Ballard, is eyeing. Love has potential, no doubt but will need to be coached up in order to be ready to play in the NFL. Expect Jacoby Brissett to be the starter come week 1, but depending on the speed of development, Jordan Love could make an appearance.

5. New Orleans Saints

The Saints are in no rush to move on from Drew Brees, but they need to start looking for a future replacement. Washington quarterback, Jacob Eason, might be a match made in heaven in this Saints offense. Eason is not ready to take on a starting position in the NFL, as he needs to develop his ability to read defenses, something that Drew Brees does extremely well. There is no harm in taking a year to learn behind one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, Eason has so much talent but needs some help putting it all together.
