That number is a bit misleading as teams were often running the ball a lot late in games with the lead, which made their pass defense look even better than it was — when looking merely at statistics that is.
Washington had its fair share of problems in the secondary and that was magnified when they lost Quinton Dunbar to a hamstring injury. Looking ahead to 2020, there’s a good chance that Rivera overhauls this secondary with players such as Josh Norman — who was under Rivera in Carolina — potentially being shown the door.
If they do this, he might need to bring in a veteran to replace Norman. One option is Daryl Worley, who spent the first two seasons of his career with the Panthers before being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for Torey Smith. His stint there was short-lived as the Eagles released Worley for an altercation with police.
He then landed with the Oakland Raiders where he spent the past two seasons. Heading back into free agency, he could be a player that Rivera turns to. Another option is James Bradberry, who was in Carolina last season, but Worley seems to have a higher ceiling at this point.
