With him gone, the Redskins turned to free agent Donald Penn, who wasn’t the same player we saw during his days in Oakland. Penn scored a 64.1 according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required) which ranked him 49th in the NFL at left tackle.
At right tackle, they had Morgan Moses, who wasn’t much better. He too scored low on PFF, coming in as the 43 rated right tackle with a 65.2. With Ron Rivera now in town, neither of these players is safe.
Should they decide to make a move at either spot, Daryl Williams could be an option. While he’s typically been a right tackle throughout his career, Williams did play left tackle this past season for the Panthers.
What’s really impressive is his versatility as Williams also had starts at right guard and left guard this season as well. He’s a solid veteran who has been with Rivera for his entire career. He could end up rejoining his old boss, which would be a huge help as they try and rebuild that O-line.
It would also allow them some versatility when drafting as they won’t need to focus on any one position to upgrade since Williams can move all around.
