3. Jake Fromm, Georgia
Jason Garrett would have absolutely loved Jake Fromm. He’s about as safe as you get at the position and he would be the ideal guy to play in a run-first offense. Now with Garrett gone and Mike McCarthy in, Fromm isn’t as much of a fit as he could have been. But that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be able to win as the quarterback in Big D.

Even with Garrett in New York as the offensive coordinator, this is still the same roster he helped Will McClay and Stephen Jones build, and that roster is designed to run through Ezekiel Elliott. In fact, the contract given to their big offensive linemen, as well as the $15 million per year Zeke got, are what got this team in the predicament they’re in with their current signal-caller.
Dallas built a roster that could contend as long as they have competent quarterback play — rather than needing an elite player. And make no mistake about it, Dak Prescott wants elite money. Someone such as Jake Fromm could come in and play the game manager role.
He would excel in getting the ball out quickly and wouldn’t make many errors. He also wouldn’t mind taking a back seat to Elliott when he’s on a roll.
Fromm isn’t perfect though. He won’t test the defense deep, which was a criticism of Prescott prior to 2019. He’s also somewhat nonchalant when running the offense, something that was a criticism of Tony Romo for much of his career before he gave way to Prescott.
In the end, this one is probably the least likely but Fromm could potentially find a way to contend in the NFC East with the Cowboys roster. And they wouldn’t have to use the high draft pick — or picks — acquired for Dak Prescott, meaning they could put even more talent around him.
