Tua Tagovailoa gets good news leading up to 2020 NFL Draft
By Cory Kinnan
As the 2020 NFL Draft approaches in just over two months, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa gets some good news as he recovers from a hip injury.
Nearly three months removed from an injury against Mississippi State where he was diagnosed with a dislocated hip and posterior wall fracture, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa received good news after his latest CT scan. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rappoport, Tagovailoa’s fracture has healed, and he has full range of motion in his hip as the 2020 NFL Draft is nearing closer.
Rappoport also reported that although Tagovailoa received “as positive as possible” news about his hip recovery, he is still about a month away from partaking in any football activities. This means that he will be inactive for the NFL Scouting Combine later this month.
Even with the hip injury, Tua was still largely considered a top-five pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and now that his prognosis is positive, he looks like a lock to be selected in that range. While contemplating returning to Alabama for his senior season, Tagovailoa now looks like a massive winner ahead of the draft.

Another massive winner with this news is the Detroit Lions, who sit with the third pick in the draft and have the ability to come away with a haul of talent and assets this April. With LSU quarterback Joe Burrow and Ohio State pass rusher Chase Young practically written in with marker as the top two picks in the draft, quarterback needy teams will be blowing up the phones in Detroit.
Expect the Lions to wait out any bidders until the last possible minute in an attempt to drive the price up as high as possible and pin opposing teams against one another. Teams expected to be interested in moving up include the Miami Dolphins, the Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers, and potentially a wildcard team like the Las Vegas Raiders.
Still a top prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft, Tua Tagovailoa is about to make a ton of money this spring as his floor is the fifth pick in the draft. He will have a chance to wow teams at his pro day since he will have to sit the combine out as he continues to recover.
