The Dolphins may pass on Tua Tagovailoa for Herbert: Sell. Sell. Sell.

You can sell this rumor to anyone who’ll buy it. There are three guarantees in life: Death, Taxes, and not a single NFL team would pass on Tua Tagovailoa for Justin Herbert. The Detroit Lions are going to do everything possible to gauge the Miami Dolphins for the third pick. Miami is going to do everything they can to devalue that pick.

More from With the First Pick

As much as Matthew Stafford trade rumors swirl around social media, the Lions are not picking Tua Tagovailoa. Head Coach Matt Patricia, and General Manager Bob Quinn are both on the hottest seats in the NFL. Another three win season will almost surely result in owner Martha Ford showing them the door. If they think that selecting a young Quarterback will buy them another year, that’s a bold investment to make in a young man who may not take a snap in 2020.

The Miami Dolphins have coveted Tua Tagovailoa for quite some time now. Tua’s family has been very vocal about how much they would enjoy living in South Florida, because the climate is similar to their home state of Hawaii. The combine will tell us just how much the Miami Dolphins love the Alabama Quarterback.

On the Herbert side of the coin, he has been a very good Quarterback at The University of Oregon. Before the 2019 season, he was making a case to be the first Quarterback taken in 2020. However, the Dolphins have been very public about how much they value leadership in a Quarterback. Herbert describes himself as an introvert, and is extremely soft spoken. Traditional NFL evaluators will surely be turned off by that. Herbert may be a good leader of men, but his demeanor will make it hard for those traits to shine.
