After a record setting season at LSU, Joe Burrow is primed to become the first pick to the Bengals in the 2020 NFL Draft.

It has been a long time coming (in reality, it has been about two weeks), but Heisman winning quarterback Joe Burrow has finally made a definitive statement regarding his status as the likely first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and in regards to the team picking first: the Cincinnati Bengals.

After nebulous statements like acknowledging he has leverage as the likely top pick, Burrow was asked about playing for the Bengals at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana. The statement that Burrow made at the combine was not nebulous, as he stated with one-hundred percent certainty that he would play for the Bengals should they select him with the first pick in the draft.

"“Yeah, I mean I’m not going to not play… I’m a ball player. Whoever picks me, I’m going to go show up (Burrow via PFT)."

More from With the First Pick

The Bengals have not had the number one overall pick since 2003, when they selected another Heisman winning quarterback in Carson Palmer of USC. After a 2-14 season in Zac Taylor’s first year as the head coach, Cincinnati looks primed to take another face of their franchise in Burrow after a record setting season at LSU.

Just a kid from Athens, Ohio, a former three-star recruit to The Ohio State University, then a transfer down to the Bayou, Joe Burrow is primed to head back to the Buckeye state. It would be the ultimate draft shock to see the Bengals go in any other direction than the man who threw 60 touchdown passes on his way to a National Championship with the Tigers.

The combine is just beginning, and it is an event that Burrow will not even participate in beyond interviewing with teams. However, the Bengals have heard all they need to hear from Burrow after he committed to playing in Cincinnati should they select him.
