Derrick Brown, IDL, Auburn

While Campbell was listed as a defensive end, he possessed the strength, power, and athleticism to play both inside and outside. Derrick Brown would make up for the interior presence lost by Campbell. Brown is a force on the inside and should he be available with Jaguars ninth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, they should pull the trigger without question.

Campbell was a sack machine for both the Jaguars and Cardinals. While Brown doesn’t necessarily possess fourteen sack potential, he surely has the ability to shoot gaps and apply pressure on the passer. Going up against top tier offensive line talent in the SEC, Brown has shown the ability to manhandle NFL level offensive linemen.

Brown’s explosiveness and athletic ability gives him big play potential playing next to Josh Allen. Campbell was an all-pro with the Jaguars and commanded double teams freeing up his teammates for sacks. Brown can have a similar type of impact on a football team. Teams in the NFL will learn early on that attempting to block Brown one-on-one will lead to their offense being disrupted in every way, shape, and form.

The biggest thing that the Jacksonville Jaguars will miss about Calais Campbell is his leadership in the locker room and on the field. Brown has the ability to be that type of leader. Brown was a team captain his senior year for Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers. He can also lead by example with a motor that does not stop. Normally players that size tend to take plays off, but not Derrick Brown.
