The San Francisco 49ers have two first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft but which positions should they prioritize as they eye another Super Bowl run?

The San Francisco 49ers have the means to retool a loaded roster in the 2020 NFL Draft as they eye a return to the Super Bowl.

After trading stud defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts for the 13th overall pick, the Niners possess two selections in the first round. They also pick at number 31.

That gives them the flexibility to consider trading back to pick up a haul of day-two selections.

Regardless of how they approach the draft, what are the needs the 49ers should be looking to address. Here we rank the areas of the team John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan will likely be focused on next week.

The 49ers would appear to be set at tackle, with Mike McGlinchey and Joe Staley firmly in possession of the starting roles on the right and left side respectively.

However, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area (h/t Niners Nation) recently rated veteran Staley’s odds of returning to play in 2020 as 50-50.

With the coronavirus pandemic throwing the season into question, it is not out of the realms of possibility that Staley has played his last snap in the NFL.

Daniel Brunskill and Justin Skule each filled in admirably when McGlinchey and Staley went down with injuries in 2019. Brunskill, though, is a likely candidate to compete for the vacant right guard spot, making the need to find a Staley successor even more pressing.

Iowa tackle Tristan Wirfs would fit the bill as he possesses the athletic ability to slot perfectly into the 49ers’ zone-running scheme. Wirfs could also start at guard if Staley decides to carry on. Alabama’s Jedrick Wills offers similar positional flexibility and athleticism and could be available with pick No. 13.

Further down the board, Boise State’s Ezra Cleveland, USC’s Austin Jackson and Isaiah Wilson of Georgia stand out as possible candidates to serve as the heir apparent to a modern-day 49ers legend.
