Saints: WTFP 2020 NFL Draft 3-round staff mock picks and explanations

The value here is excellent. Saints fans should be absolutely thrilled if the team is able to land Davis-Gaither in real life.
DeMario Davis is excellent. Kiko Alonso is fine. Alex Anzalone has struggled with injuries. New Orleans needs to inject some youth into their linebacker corps, and they do that here with ADG.
Calling Davis-Gaither versatile is an understatement. As a starter for the last two seasons, he displayed very good run defense, great instincts, elite athleticism, good coverage skills, and devastating blitz ability. He can do it all as an outside linebacker.
He is undersized at 6’1″ 224lbs, but his athleticism makes up for what he lacks in size. He’s a defensive weapon that Dennis Allen should be able to make excellent use of. When the Saints play nickel with Lattimore and Johnson outside, and combination of P.J. Williams. Jenkins, Robinson, Marcus Williams, Jenkins, Gardner-Johnson, and Swearinger at slot corner at the two safety spots, they’ll have seven guys who can cover well.
That’s something that is exceptionally rare in the NFL, and because of that, adding Davis-Gaither, especially in the third round, would take New Orleans’ defense to the next level.
