Bold Take: Miami takes a wide receiver early on day 3

The Dolphins seem to have the wide receiver room set. Miami already has DeVante Parker, Albert Wilson, Jakeem Grant, Preston Williams, and Allen Hurns on the roster. In the second half of 2019, the Dolphins passing offense took off in the second half of 2019 under quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, and resulted in wins over the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots.

Each of those receivers have given the Dolphins a reason that they should be considering a wide receiver, maybe not early, but at some point. DeVante Parker has one full 16 game season in the NFL. Undrafted free agent Preston Williams is coming off of an ACL tear. Albert Wilson has not looked the same since his 2018 hip injury, and has a large cap hit for 2020 with limited dead cap. Jakeem Grant has finished the last two seasons on the injured reserve, and his contract has very little dead money going forward. The healthiest of the bunch is Allen Hurns, but he does not offer more other than being a solid big slot.

A sweet spot for the Dolphins to target a receiver would be pick 141 in the fourth round or 153 in the fifth. A pass catcher at this spot would add depth to the position, and give them a player who doesn’t expect to be on the field right away. A name to watch is University of Texas receiver Devin Duvernay. In the slot, Duvernay has great straight line speed and should thrive in Chan Gailey’s offensive scheme.
