After being the most active NFL team in free agency, the Dolphins look to add their franchise quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa

The Miami Dolphins were perhaps the most active team during the NFL’s free agency period. The team went out and added very talented and scheme diverse players on both sides of the both ball. In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Dolphins will look to build up the most important parts of their roster, but they start by selecting Tua Tagovailoa.

The Dolphins addressed their porous run game in free agency. Miami added former Philadelphia Eagles running back Jordan Howard to be the power back, as they look to go running back by committee. On the offensive line, Miami brought in Ted Karras and Ereck Flowers. Both of them are powerful players who move people off the ball in the run game.

On defense, The Dolphins added to the trenches and got a “Big Fish” in the secondary. Miami emphasized versatile power rushers on the edge with Shaq Lawson from Buffalo and Emmanuel Ogbah from the Kansas City Chiefs. Kyle Van Noy was given a big contract to be a versatile edge rusher and linebacker.

More from With the First Pick

Star cornerback Byron Jones picked the Miami Dolphins out of his long list of suitors. The combination of Jones and Xavien Howard looks like the best cornerback tandem in the NFL. The Dolphins clearly prioritized the defense and offensive line in free agency. Jones and Howard allow the defense to play as much man coverage as they want to, but most importantly, it allows them to bring pressure.

The Dolphins have a great core of young playmakers on offense, headlined by wide receiver DeVante Parker. Parker finally hit his stride in 2019, which was largely in part because he was able to stay healthy. Preston Williams was having a great rookie season before his injury. Most notably, Mike Gesicki emerged as a weapon from the tight end spot.

All of this leads up to the Miami Dolphins’ fifth pick in the 2020 NFL draft, where they selected Tua Tagovailoa and hope that he can be the catalyst for Dolphins greatness for years to come. With the amount of picks the Dolphins have, they will be selecting a multitude of players, and chose to make Tua the first.
