The Jacksonville Jaguars used the pick they acquired in the Jalen Ramsey trade with the Los Angeles Rams to select K’Lavon Chaisson with the 20th overall.

K’Lavon Chaisson will have to go a long way to make the same impact Jalen Ramsey has had in the NFL, but the Jacksonville Jaguars will look for him to help vindicate the decision to cut ties with the All-Pro cornerback.

After selecting C.J. Henderson ninth overall, the Jaguars elected to go with the LSU pass rusher to bolster their defensive front, and add an element of versatility.

Such was the extent of the teardown of a once-vaunted Jaguars roster, the Jacksonville still has a long way to go in its rebuild.

More from With the First Pick

However, adding Henderson and Chaisson is a very good start for a regime under pressure to hit home runs on their picks after shedding large swathes of the talent they had at their disposal.

The Jaguars do not lack capital with which to further replenish their roster. They have 10 further picks in this draft, though eight of them come on day three. The distribution of those picks may lead the Jaguars to trade up for further day-two selections.

Regardless of what Jacksonville does in the later rounds, it will be the selections of Henderson and Chaisson that will determine whether those making the decisions keep their jobs next offseason.

If they fail to live up to the billing, then head coach Doug Marrone and general manager David Caldwell could each be looking for new employment come January 2021.
