Seahawks hopes to turnaround luck with first picks with Jordyn Brooks
John Schneider looks to turn improve his first round fortunes with the Seahawks selection of Jordyn Brooks with the 27th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
John Schnieder and Pete Carroll are largely considered one of the best General Manager and Head Coach duos in the NFL. And for good reason. They have been able to keep the Seahawks contenders while basically undergoing and rebuild on the fly. Of course, it helps to have a quarterback with the talent of Russell Wilson. Here they take Texas Tech linebacker Jordyn Brooks with the 27th pick.
While the Seahawks have made the playoffs in seven of the last eight seasons, including two Super Bowl appearances, they have been the best drafting team of late. John Schneider seems to really struggle with their early picks in the draft, specifically. Germain Ifedi, Malik McDowell, Rashaad Penny, and L.J. Collier represent the first picks for Seattle in the last four drafts. None of those four have yet to live up to what the Seahawks hoped for when selecting them.
Schneider has enjoyed much better success in the middle and late rounds as the selections of Russell Wilson, Tyler Lockett, Chris Carson, Shaquill Griffin, and Shaquem Griffin show. Even punter Michael Dickson, who was selected in the fifth round in 2018, has exceeded expectations already.
Schneider and the Seattle Seahawks obviously hope the selection of Brooks will turn things around and represent a successful first round pick for the first time in at least the last five drafts. If Brooks does pan out the way they hope, Seattle will certainly be a top contender in the tough NFC.
