Newman 101

A former three-star recruit out of North Carolina back in the class of 2016, Jamie Newman committed to Wake Forest over the likes of Duke, North Carolina State, West Virginia, Boston College, and East Carolina according to 247. The third overall quarterback in the state of North Carolina was staying in-state, at least for the time being.

After redshirting during the 2016 season, The 6-3 and 230 pound Newman saw action in one game in 2017 and six games in 2018 before taking over the starting role full time last year for the Demon Deacons. Entering the 2019 season, Newman had a career total of just over 1,000 yards passing, nine touchdowns, five interceptions, and a completion percentage under 60 percent.

However, in his first year as the full time starter at Wake Forest, Newman saw his play increase significantly, and was even in the running for the Heisman through the first part of the 2019 season. After a season completing over 60 percent of his passes for nearly 2,900 yards passing, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, Newman was named to the All-ACC third team.

Not to mention, Newman added an additional 574 yards rushing and six scores on the ground for the Demon Deacons a year ago. Now taking his game into the SEC with Monken, Smart, and the Bulldogs, Newman looks to take his game to another level in his last year of eligibility before he heads to the 2021 NFL Draft.
