Baltimore Ravens Round 2, pick 55: J.K. Dobbins | Running back | Ohio State

Heading into day two, the Ravens decided to add firepower to one of their best strengths: the rushing attack. Even with a quality veteran like Mark Ingram in the backfield and the talented Justice Hill, the Ravens wanted to get themselves a talented youngster that can step in and contribute immediately. They decided on J.K. Dobbins, the running back out of Ohio State University.

More from With the First Pick

One of the best backs in the class, Dobbins is a balanced back that shows strengths running outside and in, along with decent hands in the return game. In addition, he’s a pretty reliable prospect when it comes to pass blocking. so he’s a rather polished ball carrier that can step in immediately. Outside of, maybe, Georgia’s D’Andre Swift, Dobbins is arguably the best well-balanced option in this class.

Considering Mark Ingram is a 30-year-old veteran running back with a 2020 cap hit of $5.3 million, the Ravens were able to get themselves a near-perfect replacement for their rushing attack that has better hands and younger legs. The larger issue with this pick, however, is that it’s a running back. The position lacks the career durability to be selected this early, especially when considerably equal talents could be had in later rounds. Dobbins is a strong pick that fits their offensive approach, but it’s difficult to praise them for a running back selection before the third round.
