It was a very long wait for Jacob Eason to hear his name called in the draft, as he was not selected by the Colts until the fourth round.

For as much as his slide may have frustrated him, Eason had to have been thrilled with the eventual destination.
In the Colts, Eason joins a team whose likely starting quarterback, Philip Rivers, is 38 and only signed to a one-year contract.
Eason will have to sit on the bench in his first year, but he has a clear path to starting in 2021 if Rivers is indeed only going to play one year in Indianapolis.
If the Colts are grooming Eason to be their long-term starter, then they picked an ideal mentor in former Chargers gunslinger Rivers.
Eason’s main deficiency during his collegiate career was poor decision-making, but he possesses tremendous arm strength and, when at his best, can throw with incredible accuracy downfield.
The wisdom Rivers has gained through a long and decorated career could be the tonic that helps Eason improve the decisions he makes with the football and, should he ascend to starter, playing eight games in a dome for a creative play-caller in Frank Reich should enable him to harness his elite arm on a consistent basis.
