3 potential landing spots for Josh Rosen amid trade rumors
Las Vegas Raiders
Ever since Jon Gruden took over as head coach of the Raiders, there have been trade rumors attached to Derek Carr’s name. After two seasons without making the playoffs and a fresh new city and stadium, Carr could be entering his final season in the silver and black. The Raiders signed former Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota to back up Carr for 2020. Las Vegas also went out and added a bevy of weapons for him this off-season.
One of the biggest criticisms of Carr is his refusal to push the ball downfield. Because of this, his most trusted target in 2019 was Hunter Renfrow. Most of the targets to Renfrow were short of the sticks, meaning Carr was content to try and dink and dunk his way to a high completion percentage but a largely ineffective offense. With rookie running back Josh Jacobs showing great strides in 2019, the Raiders offense would be much better with a quarterback willing to take risks.
The Raiders will win far too many games in 2020 to draft one of the top two quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL draft. They can take a chance on Josh Rosen to be on the roster in 2020 and be a bridge quarterback in 2021 while Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock try to figure out what the plan is at quarterback for the long term future.
