Bills QB Jake Fromm under fire before ever taking an NFL snap

Bills QB Jake Fromm has come under fire before an NFL game

It is too early in the career of Jake Fromm for him to have taken a snap as a professional quarterback, but not too soon for him to come under fire. The fifth round pick of the Buffalo Bills is the second quarterback in as many days to face the fire of the media for their unsympathetic remarks towards the current movements and protests.

Yesterday, it was future Hall of Fame and New Orleans Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees who was called out by people, players, and even teammates for his comments. Today, old text messages of Fromm were posted onto Twitter, in which he made an off color comment in regards to gun ownership.

In screenshots shared on Twitter, Fromm makes an off-handed comment about how he wished gun sales were only available to “elite white people.”

We are in an age where anything can be captured, recorded, and posted (and for the better as injustices are better being exposed). While Fromm may have caught a break as Bills’ defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier spoke to the media and stated:

"“Jake seemed very sincere in his apology… I think for our team, we have a strong culture on our team. Those guys are going to be able to sift through what is real and what’s not real. We haven’t been around Jake. We haven’t had a chance to spend much time with him because of the virtual offseason that we’re in. He’s a teammate. Those guys, I think over time, he’ll gain their trust” (via PFT)"

He was no sure thing to make the roster in Buffalo as it stands after being a day-three pick, and his road may be steeper. Fromm is young, his actions were inexcusable, and in an ideal world he will grow from this moving forward.

As tensions rise, and equity makes many a bit uncomfortable in the growing process, it has become a time to say less and listen more. As he begins his NFL career, a time where he has to potentially lead a roster of 53 men, Fromm has to learn to listen to those in the locker room who have come up from a different background than he.
